Alabama Code Sec.34-29-111 specifically provides that all information, interviews, reports, statements, memoranda, or other documents are declared to be privileged and confidential. "AVPWP" records shall not be available for court subpoena or for discovery proceedings." In short, when you work with the AVPWP it will remain as private and confidential as possible.
Policy
The Alabama Veterinary Professionals Wellness Program, AVPWP, promotes the early identification, evaluation, and treatment of veterinarians who may be impaired as a result of mental/emotional illness, or substance abuse/dependence. A documented program of recovery is offered to enable these veterinarians to continue to practice. The program is confidential.
AVPWP's Relationship with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Examiners
The Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners contracts with the Medical Association of the State of Alabama to provide the Alabama Veterinary Professionals Wellness Program. AVPWP is supervised by the Alabama Veterinary Professionals Wellness Committee.Information and records maintained by the AVPWP are not available to the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Documentation of participation in our monitoring program can be essential in helping to maintain and/or restore licensure.
